About Music GUARDIANS

About us

Music Guardians is a pioneering organisation dedicated to reshaping safety standards across the UK music industry for young people aged 16–25. Founded by Kimberley Goddard, former Director of Industry Partnerships, and Katy Lana Hall, former Industry Readiness Manager at ELAM (East London Arts and Music), the organisation addresses a critical gap in safeguarding. It provides clear, practical guidance on how to safely and ethically integrate young people into the complex and often unregulated environments of the music industry.

Through specific music industry-wide training, mentoring, process mapping, project management, and much more,  Music Guardians is building the infrastructure for safe, accessible, and inclusive pathways into music. With lived experience as an artist and extensive expertise in industry readiness, education and safeguarding, Kimberley and Katy bring a uniquely informed and empathetic approach to youth protection in music.

They are currently working with Universal Music as founding partners on its early entry programme, Amplify U, as part of the pioneering team that helped develop the initiative through Ange Pattico’s team. Amplify U is an internship and work experience programme that supports the most overlooked in society by creating safe, tangible pathways into the music industry and emphasising the importance of soft skills. Music Guardians risk-assesses all pipelines of opportunity for UMG UK, mentors and trains Universal Music on best practice in safeguarding, and promotes the importance of wellbeing and positive ways to engage and work with young people.

They are currently working on a groundbreaking research project with Youth Music to explore how young people are truly experiencing the music industry today, with the aim of informing long-overdue changes to policy, culture, and practice across the sector.

Now working in collaboration with a major label and Grammy Award-winning producer Fraser T. Smith on his Future Producer Academy, Music Guardians project-manages, risk-assesses, carries out DBS checks, and supports the overall strategy for engaging young people across the UK. They advise on best practice for identifying the most talented producers from disadvantaged backgrounds and lead sessions in top studios nationwide. The organisation is backed by some of the most respected names in the industry.

“Our mission is to help redefine safety standards and ensure that all environments, no matter how nuanced, are safer, more accessible, and truly inclusive for the next generation of music professionals.”
